Böhler-Uddeholm AGBöhler-Uddeholm AG, international high-grade steel company formed in 1991 by the merger of Böhler Gesellschaft m. b. H., Kapfenberg (Böhler-Werke), part of the nationalised Austrian Industries AG, with the Swedish firm, Uddeholm AB. Production sites in Austria, Germany, North and South America, sales subsidiaries on all five continents. Majority interest privatised via the stock exchange in 1996. Up to 1999 comprised four major divisions: long products, strip sheet products, welding and forging technology. The welding division was sold in 1999. The company is considered the world's leading manufacturer of tool steel. In 1998 its staff numbered 9200 worldwide, and total sales amounted to ATS 18.6 billion.
