Blaha, PaulBlaha, Paul, b. Maribor (Slovenia), April 17, 1925, journalist, theatre director. After 1946 journalist in Linz, co-founder of a cellar theatre in Linz, 1961-1979 drama critic for the "Kurier" newspaper; 1979-1987 director of the Vienna Volkstheater (renovated the main theatre, established a drama school for the Volkstheater and founded the Volkstheater studio to cater for experimental plays (1981-1986). His progressive and political style was often misunderstood by both critics and audience. Works: novels: Schöne freie Welt, 1991; Die Hinterbliebenen, 1994; Recherche, 1996. Literature: G.
