Fréjus (France), Oct. 17, 1982, French general. 1945 became supreme commander of the French occupation troops in Austria with headquarters in Innsbruck. Later High Commissioner for Austria in Vienna. June 1950 succeeded by Jean Payart. B. advocated European unification.
