St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut (Upper Austria), Aug. 20, 1950, actor, director, theatre manager. From 1916 director of the Vienna theatre Kammerspiele, 1918-1924 director of the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna. Champion of naturalism, neo-Romanticism and expressionism; engaged most notably A. Moissi.
