Berczeller, RichardBerczeller, Richard, b. Sopron, Hungary (then Ödenburg), Feb. 4, 1902, d. New York (USA), Jan. 3, 1994, physician and writer. 1920-1926 studied medicine in Vienna; from 1934 repeated arrests for his affiliation to the illegal, Social Democratic movement "Republikanischer Schutzbund"; 1938-1941 fled Nazi persecution; 1941 escape to the USA; most of his literary works were published in the "New Yorker". Works: Die sieben Leben des Doktor B. (German 1965); Mit Ö. verbunden. Burgenlandschicksale 1918-1945, 1975 (with N. Leser); Verweht (German 1983). Literature: A.
