Begabtenprüfung

Begabtenprüfung (Gifted Student's Exam), an exam which for the first time opened access to universities to persons who had not obtained a Reifezeugnis (diploma giving access to university) awarded by a secondary school, introduced in 1938 by the National Socialists for persons between the ages of 25 and 40 years who had "an obvious talent in their chosen branch of study". Applicants had to furnish proof that they were "of German blood" and active in the National Socialist Party. The exam could be taken at the universities of Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck.
