Baxter AG


Baxter AG, pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Vienna, formed in 1999 by a merger between Immuno AG (founded in 1960) and the Austrian Institute for Haemoderivatives (Österreichisches Institut für Haemoderivate) founded in 1953. Focuses on research into and the production of biological drugs (haemostatic drugs, albumins, immunoglobulins, vaccines, diagnostic products). Best known product is its vaccine against tick-borne viral meningoencephalitis. Biomedical research station at Orth an der Donau. With a staff of 2200, Baxter AG reported sales in the order of approximately ATS 5 billion in 1998.
