Batthyány, Count Carl Joseph, b. Rechnitz (Burgenland), April 28, 1698, d. Vienna, April 15, 1772, field marshal. 1763 raised to the rank of "prince"; from 1748 tutor to the future Emperor Joseph II, then also Master of Ceremonies (until 1763). See also: Batthyány Family.
