Bancozettel

Bancozettel (bank notes), paper money issued by the Wiener Stadtbanco under a patent of July 1, 1762 in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 florins. The bank notes were altered in 1771 and 1785 and notes of 500 and 1000 florins were added. Public cash offices were obliged to accept Bancozettel as a means of payment or change them into coins. During the Napoleonic Wars the issue was increased significantly. The Bancozettel lost its validity as a means of payment on May 31, 1812.
