Badia, Carlo Agostino


Badia, Carlo Agostino, b. Venice (Italy) (?), 1672, d. Vienna, Sept. 23, 1738, composer. From 1692 in employment of the Habsburgs (from 1694 court composer); one of the foremost composers of the High Baroque in Austria (along with J. J. Fux, A. Caldara et al). Composed mainly oratorios and operas and reached the height of his creativity during the reigns of Emperors Leopold I and Joseph I. In the early 1700s married the soprano A. M. E. (Lisi) Nonetti, who was prima donna at the Imperial Court until her death in 1726.
