Bachmayer, FriedrichBachmayer, Friedrich, b. Kamegg (municipality of Gars am Kamp, Lower Austria), Sept. 10, 1913, d. Vienna, July 25, 1989, palaeontologist, 1949-1979 employed by the Museum of Natural History in Vienna, from 1966 head of the Department of Geology and Palaeontology, from 1972 Director-General; headed numerous fossil excavations in Austria (especially Lower Austria) and abroad. Works: Das Naturhistorische Museum in Wien, 1979 (together with O. Schulze); Erdöl und Erdgas in Österreich, 1980; Fossile Schildkröten aus dem Pliozän von Megalo Emvolo bei Saloniki, 1980 (co-author with M. Meynarski and N. Symeonidis); Die Ausgrabungen in Pikermi-Chomateri bei Athen, 1982 (co-author with N. Symeonidis and H. Zapfe).
