Auernheimer, Raoul (pseudonyms: R. Heimern, R. Othmar), b. Vienna, April 15, 1876, d. Oakland (USA), Jan. 7, 1948, writer of narratives and plays; studied law in Vienna, journalist, feuilletonist, editor; 1923-27 first president of the Austrian P.E.N. Club; 1939 left Austria for the USA, His comedies are set in bourgeois society and show the influence of A. Schnitzler and Guy de Maupassant.


Works: Casanova in Wien, 1924 (comedy); Wien. Bild und Schicksal, 1938. - Novels: Das Kapital, 1923; Die linke und die rechte Hand, 1927; Metternich, 1947; Grillparzer, 1948. - Autobiography: Das Wirtshaus zur verlorenen Zeit, 1948.
