Antel, Franz (Josef), b. Vienna, June 28, 1913, d. Vienna, August 12, 2007, film director, producer, screenwriter; started his career as assistant director, first worked as a director in the short sound film "Vagabunden" (1933). Directed more than 90 Austrian and German light films, esp. Heimatfilm (films with regional background) and K. u. k. Films (films about the time of the Monarchy), esp. "Der alte Sünder" (1951), "Hallo Dienstmann" (1952), "Kaiserwalzer" (1953), "Spionage" (1955), "Lumpazivagabundus" (1957), "Ruf der Wälder" (1965), "Susanne, die Wirtin an der Lahn" (1967), "Casanova & Co." (1977), "Der Bockerer I" (1981), "Der Bockerer II" (1996), "Der Bockerer III" (2000).
