Ambros, August Wilhelm, b. Mauth near Prague (Czech Republic), Nov. 17, 1816, d. Vienna, June 28, 1876, studied law, music historian, critic, Romantic composer, one of the first supporters of Cecilianism in Austria. Taught art history to Crown Prince Rudolf.


Works: 1 opera, lieder; Geschichte der Musik, 3 vols., 1862ff.
