Altstoff Recycling Austria AG, ARA, non-profit enterprise founded in 1993 on the initiative of the Austrian business sector with the goal of collecting and recycling packaging waste and relieving the burden on waste dumps and the environment (Waste Management). ARA hires waste collection and recycling businesses throughout Austria to collect, sort, and recycle certain packaging materials. ARA assumes responsibility for its license partners under the Packaging Regulation.Until 1998, ARA enjoyed virtual monopoly status in Austria, which was weakened by the gradual increase of other waste management enterprises.
