Altmutter, FranzAltmutter, Franz, b. Vienna, Jan. 21, 1746, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Jan. 1, 1817, painter; father of Jakob Placidus Altmutter. Lived in Innsbruck from 1771. His style is typical of the late baroque period indicating its tribute to P. Troger, one of the most celebrated Austrian representatives of baroque art. Works: Frescoes in many Tyrolean churches; wall paintings in the Innsbruck Hofburg Imperial Palace (together with J. P. Altmutter), 1815. Literature: E. Egg, Kunst in Tirol, vol. II, 1972.
