© Copyright Alpine plants: Alpine rose. Alpine Flora: By 1867, the botanist K. H. H. Christ had already counted 693 plant types characteristic the Alpine region between Mont-Ventoux (France) and Schneeberg mountain (Lower Austria); 422 of them occur exclusively in the Alps. They mainly grow above the treeline (1,600-2,400 m) up to an altitude of about 3,300 m. The most important plants include: blue Alpine daisy, Alpine soldanella, Alpine campion, Alpine poppy, Alpine carnation, Alpine rose, arnice, auricula, edelweiss, gentian, glacial crowfoot, black nigritella, lousewort, stemless catchfly, mealy primrose, 8-leaved white dryas, saxifragacea and wulfenia. Most Alpine plants are protected by conservation laws.
