AlpbachAlpbach, Tyrol, municipality in the district of Kufstein, alt. 975 m, pop. 2,163, area 58.40 km2, mountain village in the valley of the Alpbacher Ache river, at the foot of Galtenberg mountain (2424 m). - Biseasonal tourist town (294,751 overnight stays); conference centre; since 1945 location of annual 2-week "Europäisches Forum Alpbach"; mountain farming museum in ancient farmhouse (1638); aerial ropeway to Wiedersberger Horn (1827 m); shingle production. - First documented 1240, mining in 16th-17th centuries; Gothic-Baroque church (first documented 1369) with ceiling paintings by C. A. Mayr, Baroque high altar and wooden carved statues; old farmhouses ("Einhöfe", a type of Austrian farmhouse). The winter sports town of Inner-Alpbach is located at the end of the valley.
