Almer

Almer (lat. armarium = cupboard), name of a farmer's cupboard for storing food; usually one door, in some cases with drawers, usually undecorated, often with a lock; older forms of the Almer had a pediment on the top. Variations include the table Almer (called "Stubenkasten" in Vorarlberg), Speis-A. (food cupboard, in Pustertal/Val Pusteria in South Tyrol), Wand-A. and Winkel-A. (wall and corner cupboard) also called "Ganter" (Italian "cantero" = food cupboard) in Carinthia.
