ALDIS

ALDIS, Austrian Lightning Detection & Information System, run in co-operation with the Verbund electric power supplier and the Österreichischer Verband für Elektrotechnik, (ÖVE, Austrian Electrotechnical Association). Its 8 lightning sensors set up in Austria each record all flashes of cloud-to-ground lightning within a radius of 400 km. The lightning data is then transmitted to the ALDIS headquarters in Vienna. Aside from electric power companies, weather services, the aviation industry, the operators of extended "lightning-sensitive" networks (Post & Telekom, Federal Austrian Railway, etc.), industrial businesses as well as insurance companies use the services of ALDIS.
