Albrecht I.© Copyright Duke Albrecht I, drawing after a portrait on a coin Albrecht I, b. 1255, d. near Brugg an der Aare (Switzerland), May 1, 1308, (assassinated after crossing the Reuss by his nephew Johann "Parricidia"), eldest son of King Rudolf I of Habsburg, from 1281 entrusted with the administration of the Empire, 1282 Duke of Austria and of Styria (conjointly with his brother Rudolf II until 1283), quelled insurrections in Austria and Styria, fought against Salzburg. He granted new privileges to Vienna and made his son Rudolf III King of Bohemia. 1298 elected German King and victorious over Adolf of Nassau in the battle of Göllheim in Hessen. Literature: B.
