Schubert’s birthplace, second memorial room

© Photo Archive Schilder
Nußdorferstraße 54.

A piano that had belonged to his brother Ignaz (1785-1844) stands in the centre of the room. Behind the piano one can see a portrait of Schubert’s juvenile love Therese Grob, whom he got to know in 1814. When Schubert’s first Mass was performed at Lichtenthal church, Therese sang the soprano solo. As Schubert had no fixed position, a marriage was out of the question. In 1820 she married a baker from the suburb of Neubau.
