On March 26th, 1828, the first anniversary of Beethovens death, Schuberts only public concert took place in the auditorium of the Musikverein under the Tuchlauben (today Vienna, 1st district, Tuchlauben 12 - but the old building was demolished in 1885). It was organised at his friends suggestion, so as to alleviate his financial difficulties. The concert was a great artistic success, the net profit amounting to 800 florins. With it Schubert could settle his debts and buy a piano for himself. Eight months later he was already dead.
