Haydn’s stay in London |
Haydn stayed in London from the beginning of January 1791 to the end of June 1792, his second stay lasted from the beginning of February 1794 to the middle of August 1795. During his first stay in London he composed 6 symphonies (Nos.93-98), among them the "Surprise", which was first performed in the Salomon concert series, conducted by Haydn himself. For the second stay he composed another 6 symphonies. The 12 symphonies composed for London are called "London" or "English" symphonies.
