Mozart Symphony G minor, K 550

Movements: Allegro molto/Andante/Minuetto (Allegro)/Finale (Allegro assai)

Orchestra: 1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (only in the second version), 2 bassoons, 2 horns, strings

Duration of performance: 28 minutes

The G minor Symphony, K 550, also called the Great G minor (in contrast to the Little G minor, K 183) was finished on July 25th, 1788. Originally planned without clarinets, Mozart later added these instruments during a revision of the work. Because of the fuller tone this second version is usually given preference. The main theme of the first movement is derived from the "Mannheim sigh", a very popular musical term of the time.
