Mozart Symphony C major, "Linzer Symphony", K 425

Movements: Adagio-Allegro spiritoso/Poco Adagio/Menuetto/Presto

Orchestra: 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, drums, strings

Duration of performance: 25 minutes

As the name tells us, the symphony was composed in Linz, in 1783, as a present for Count Johann Joseph Thun, at whose place Mozart was lodging; it was finished within a few days. It was first performed at the Linzer Theater (cf. "Österreich-Lexikon"), on November 4th, 1783. It is largely dominated by Haydn’s style. An interesting item in musical history is the use of independent musical ideas in the developments of the first two movements.
