Mozart Symphony D major, "Haffner Symphony", K 385

Movements: Allegro con spirito/Andante/Menuetto/Presto

Orchestra: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, drums, strings

Duration of performance: 17 minutes

Mozart composed the work in 1782, i.e. the year of "Entführung", and derived the theme of the Finale from Osmin’s aria "Ha, how I shall triumph".

The Haffner-Symphony must not be confused with the Haffner-Serenade (K 250), which he composed in 1776 for the wedding of the daughter of Salzburg’s renowned mayor, Sigmund Haffner. This Serenade has 8 movements.

The Haffner-Symphony was originally a serenade consisting of 6 movements, but by means of omissions it was turned into a symphony of 4 movements.

The first movement is based mainly on one theme, Mozart does without the exposition of a secondary theme.
