Mozart Symphony C major, K 338

Movements: Allegro vivace/Andante di molto/Finale /Allegro vivace

Orchestra:2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, drums, strings Duration of performance: 19 minutes

This is Mozart’s last symphony composed in Salzburg. In the first movement the frequent change between major and minor is striking; in the second movement the strings predominate, the viola part being divided, and the Finale (6-8 time) is characterised by the use of eighth notes throughout the movement. The work was finished in Salzburg on August 28th 1780. The score was revised for a performance in Vienna (by adding 2 bassoons), even a minuet was planned but just remained a rough draft.
