Mozart Symphony G minor, K 183

Movements:Allegro con brio/Andante/Menuetto/Allegro

Orchestra: 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, strings

Duration of performance: 25 minutes

Mozart composed this symphony after his third Italian journey, in Salzburg (cf. "Österreich-Lexikon"). To distinguish it from the famous K 550 symphony in the same key it is called the "Little G minor Symphony". The horn orchestration is interesting: four instead of the usual two. The two bassoons are used in solo function: in the Andante movement in counterpart to the subdued first and second violins, but also in the trio of the minuet.
