Johann Strauß and the music of his era

Johann Strauß was always keen on presenting the latest musical novelties to the Viennese public, not only his own works. Long before Wagner’s operas were first performed in Vienna, the Strauß orchestra had played parts of them in its concerts. This is also mentioned in press reports of the day.
