| The introductory overture of the work is a splendid piece of orchestral music and one of the best ideas of the score. It anticipates the ball atmosphere in the palace of Prince Orlovsky and is brilliantly orchestrated.
The plot is concentrated around a ball at the palace of Prince Orlovsky. All the proponents of the first act, with the exception of the tenor Alfred who is in love with Rosalinde, are invited.
