Johann Strauß (Sohn) Operetta "Die Fledermaus": librettists

Henri  Meilhac, French script writer, 1831-1897 wrote many opera and operetta libretti - mostly together with Halévy – among them for Jacques Offenbach Jacques Offenbach "Die schöne Helena", 1864, "Das Pariser Leben", (1866), for Georges Bizet "Carmen", (1875).

Ludovic  Halévy, French writer, 1834-1908, nephew of the French composer Jacques Francois Fromental Halévy, wrote comedies and operetta libretti for Jacques Offenbach, mostly together with Meilhac. The vaudeville libretto "Le reveillon" formed the background for the operetta "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauß.
