"Erster Gedanke" (First Thought) – a piano waltz written in 1831 In 1881 Mrs Angelika Strauß had this first waltz printed. A memorial plaque on Strauß summer residence in 1190 Vienna recalls this event with four lines of verse:A great musician, And his first composition – Concert Master Johann Strauß, Brought fame and glory to this house. The introductory theme of the waltz was used again, with slight changes, in the Court Dances ("Hofballtänze") op.298. The first print has been lost.. |
