Blue Danube Waltz - commemorative tablet 1020 Vienna, Obere Donaustraße 95 The first drafts for the waltz "An der schönen blauen Donau" go back to 1866. The original instrumental setting was hurriedly changed by Strauß into a choral piece to comply with the wish of the Vienna Männergesangsverein (Male Choir Association) to get a new vocal waltz. The public showed a rather negative reaction at first, especially because the text was considered banal. From the Paris World Exhibition on (1868) the waltz was very successful. This tablet can be seen on the successor building of the Dianabad-Saal, the venue for the first performance of the Blue Danube Waltz.
