Jupiter Symphony, 3rd movement (Allegretto)
|
Form scheme 3rd movement |
The 3rd movement is entitled Menuetto. In France the minuet became a courtly dance under Louis XIV (after 1650). In the 17th century this type of dance was accepted in art music. The minuet is a regular component of Joseph Haydn’s four-partite symphonies and has 3 parts, in which the 3rd part (after the centre part, the trio) is a literal repetition.
