Haydn’s house and deathplace, Vienna, 6th district, Haydngasse 19
This house had originally only one floor. Haydn had a second floor added when purchasing the place in 1794/95. He lived there after returning from his second journey to England (autumn 1795). The ground floor was inhabited by his servant Johann Elßler (the father of the famous dancer Fanny Elßler), who also helped him as a copyist of his scores. In the same house lived his wife, his niece Ernestine Loder and their cook Anna Kremnitzer. Haydn’s wife did not stay there for long; most of the time before her death (1800) she spent at Baden near Vienna.
