The Castle of Weinzierl today
Haydn’s performances at Castle Weinzierl near Wiselburg, Lower Austria, roused the interest of Count Charles Joseph Franz Morzin. He engaged him as a "music director" for his orchestra, which he needed in Vienna in winter and in summer at Lower Lucavec, 30 km south of Plzen, Bohemia. That is how Haydn got his first employment with an annual income of 200 florins, free board (and wine) and lodging.
Today the castle is a Higher Agricultural College, called Francisco-Josephinum. It is a place where students with an interest in agriculture can take their Matura.
