Beethoven's situation in 1825/26 |
Beethoven stayed on his brother Johann's estate at Gneixendorf near Krems. There were signs of his declining health - he developed dropsy and gout. In December he moved to Vienna, plagued by worries about his nephew Karl. On June 30th, 1826 the latter had attempted suicide at the castle ruin of Rauhenstein near Baden. Beethoven's interest and care now concentrated on his nephew's welfare.
