Beethoven’s deathplace
The so-called "Schwarzspanierhaus", today Schwarzspanierstraße 15, 9th district, was Beethoven’s lodging from October 1825 until his death on March 26th, 1827. It was a monastic building till 1779, owned by the Reformed Benedictines of Montserrat. The monks were called "Black Spaniards" because of their black habit. The building was replaced by a modern one in 1904 and a memorial plaque was affixed.
