Beethoven-house on the Pfarrplatz (parish square)
of Heiligenstadt
This house, Pfarrplatz 2 - Probusgasse runs into it - is the most widely photographed Beethoven-house in Vienna. Beethoven stayed there only during the summer of 1817. The house is frequently called "Eroica-house" (because the lane behind is called Eroicagasse), but this not historically correct. In summer the Vienna Beethoven Society organises concerts on this square in front of the house. The house itself is now home to a special restaurant, called "Heuriger" in Vienna. The square with the Beethoven-house, in the style of an old Lower Austrian wine-grower’s house with its charming courtyard, in which you can admire vine-leaves clinging to the walls, still fascinates by its rural character.
