The tomb of Bruckner's father

© Fotoarchiv Schilder

Anton Bruckner's father lies buried in the churchyard of Ansfelden, a village not far from Linz.
He was a teacher and died at the age of 46. This event affected his son's life in the following way: his mother sent the 13-year-old Anton to St.Florian, where he remained a choir boy under the guardianship of the prior of St.Florian until he attended the preparatory course for teachers in Linz. This stay at St.Florian prompted Bruckner later on to write music for liturgical use.
