Schönberg and the twelve-note music |
Arnold Schönberg developed another method, independently of Hauer. The 12-note system which Schönberg used in his work and which he elaborated in theoretical treatises was carried on by a series of direct or indirect disciples in their individual ways. Schönberg's pupil Alban Berg (cf. "Österreich-Lexikon") successfully tried a link with traditional forms and tonal music; other twelve-note composers were Anton Webern (cf.
"Österreich-Lexikon")
and Ernst Krenek (cf. "Österreich-Lexikon")
who, around 1930, experimented with various ways of extending the system.
