Josef (Matthias) Hauer Deine Wellen umspielten mich (Your waves were playing around me)
Josef (Matthias) Hauer

Basis of the composition: the trope

What is a trope?

A trope contains all the 12 notes of the chromatic scale within the scope of a major seventh, no note occurs twice, no note is left out, but the notes are not arranged in the form of a twelve-note row like in Schönberg,

A chromatic scale:

These 12 notes are mixed up at random and displayed:

As a next step this twelve-note set is divided into 2 sets with 6 notes each.

Once again the chromatic scale with a separation into a left and a right half:

The left half contains the notes: G flat, G, A, B flat, D flat and E flat. The right half contains the notes: A flat, B, C, D, E and F.
