World Heritage List: The General Conference of UNESCO in 1972 adopted the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Since then natural and cultural properties of outstanding interest and value to humanity have been compiled in the World Heritage List. Austria acceded to the World Heritage Convention in 1993. Since then the following cultural and natural properties have been included in the list: the Historic Centre of (see)Salzburg (1996), the Palace and Gardens of (see)Schönbrunn (1996), the (see)Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape (1997), the (see)Semmering Railway (1998) and thze Historic Centre of (see)Graz (1999).
