Staatsgewerbeschule

Staatsgewerbeschule ("Government Trade School", Bundesgewerbeschule = "Federal Trade School" from 1920), formed the core of the re-organisation of the technical and industrial schools in Austria (1875) promoted by A. von Dumreicher according to the French model. In terms of administration, it represented a school system which comprised at least a Foremens´ Training School (for middle management duties), a technical school (for practical work at an advanced level in various industries) and an industrial vocational school, but did not necessarily have high-level departments (advanced-level industrial schools for building and construction, machine engineering or chemical engineering). The organisation and the names of these types of school were legally changed in 1962 (berufsbildende Schulen (vocational schools)).
