Slatkonia, Georg von


Slatkonia, Georg von, b. Ljubljana, Slovenia (then Laibach), March 21, 1456, d. Vienna, April 26, 1522, humanist, bishop. From approx. 1495 chaplain at the court of Maximilian I, first bishop resident in Vienna from 1513. Originator of the reform of the Imperial Hofmusikkapelle (court orchestra) 1498. Buried in St Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna. Since 2000 the Archdiocese of Vienna has awarded the annual Bishop S. Prize for new liturgical music.
