Schönbach, Anton Emanuel, b. Rumburk, Czech Republic (then Rumburg), May 29, 1848, d. Schruns (Vorarlberg), Aug. 25, 1911. Germanist. From 1873 until his death university professor in Graz, where he established the first Seminar of German philology in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and earned high international recognition. Main field of research: medieval literature and Christian cultural history.


Works: Über Lesen und Bildung, 1888; Walther von der Vogelweide, 1890; Die Anfänge des Minnesangs, 1898; Gesammelte Aufsätze zur neueren Literatur, 1900. - Editor: Altdeutsche Predigten, 3 vols., 1886-1891.
