Etrich, Igo, b. Hořejší Staré Město, Czech Republic (then Oberaltstadt), Dec. 25, 1879, d. Salzburg, Feb. 4, 1967, pioneer of aircraft construction, 1905 registered a patent for airplane wing shape and propeller, in 1907 constructed Austria's first motorised airplane, in 1909 the "E.-Taube" ("Etrich Pigeon" monoplane), and in 1911 Austria's first military airplane. His colleague Franz Wels was the first person to fly (a glider) successfully in Austria in 1906.
