Baumeister, Bernhard (real name: B. Baumüller), b. Poznań, Poland (then Posen), Sept. 28, 1827, d. Baden (Lower Austria), Oct. 26, 1917, actor. Worked initially in German theatres, 1852-1915 member of the Vienna Burgtheater, played mainly strong, healthy characters and playboy types, later comic and tragic roles; 1857 given the title of "Hofschauspieler", 1892 made a life-member of the Court Theatre; additionally director and from 1874 teacher at the Vienna Conservatory.
