Austria Metall AG, AMAG, Austria's largest aluminium producer, located at Ranshofen, Upper Austria. Its electrolytic plant, built in 1938 and nationalised in 1946 (Nationalised Industry) was closed down in 1992. In 1996 the company was privatised through a management buyout by K. Hammerer in cooperation with Constantia-Iso Holding AG. AMAG now operates a rolling mill and pressing plant as well as a primary and a secondary aluminium foundry; an aluminium tube pressing plant at Unna, Germany, also forms part of the enterprise. In 1997/98 AMAG, with a staff of 1661, recorded group sales in the order of ATS 8 billion.
